Graveyard Run Retrievers first started when my Husband Mark and I purchased Winston. I had always wanted a Yellow Lab, but grew up in a house where we only ever had a small dog. Mark however, grew up with Labs and Field Trial Training. I picked Winston out of his Litter @ 2 weeks old, and it was love at first sight! Winston grew to be such a great dog that we decided that we should breed him and not get him neutered (He came from great bloodlines after all!). We then purchased a BIG, 2 year old "White" female named Georgia who had already whelped a couple of litters. We bred Winston to Georgia and had our first litter on Sept. 11th 2005. We decided to keep the biggest Male from the litter and named him John Henry. A year later, I had a major car accident and we weren't sure we would be able to continue breeding so we Neutered John Henry. Over the next couple of years, Georgia was bred out to another Kennel. The last of these breedings produced Demetra's Litter and since my health was better, we decided to keep the sweet natured cream girl. Around this same time we acquired Juniper, a very sweet natured, white female with excellent show and hunting bloodlines. Juniper was already 10, and had whelped many litters, and the plan was to bring her to our farm for retirement. To everyone's amazement, including our Vet, Juniper bred to Winston! She delivered her last litter (and was Spayed) via an Emergency C-Section @ 1 am, a litter we affectionately referred to as the Midnight Special puppies! From this litter we kept Bear and Gaia to continue Juniper's breed line as well as Winston's. While old Juniper is still hanging around the farm, we lost Georgia (Demetra's Mother) to a blood clot following a surgery to Spay her after she contracted an infection in her Uterus. So, here we are in 2009 with just 2 breeding females, and 2 breeding males. We do not mass produce puppies for profit here. We are breeding dogs that we have a history with, and that we know are of sound mind and body. These Labs are each a part of our family and we breed them to continue a line of dogs that have all brought us a great deal of joy. We want to be able to pass on the great personalities, strong bodies, and terrific "Retriever Instincts" of our dogs to new families. It brings us a lot of joy seeing our puppies move on to their new families where we know they will be loved and spoiled. Our puppies are handled by the entire family at different times. This means they have been exposed to our rambunctious pre-school aged son, as well as our oohing and awing teenage daughter.
